We were part of the team that designed the visual identity for Álbum Épico, a free World Cup exhibition spanning the three floors of Museo Yancuic in Iztapalapa, CDMX, for Cocolab MX.
We are very grateful for the invitation from Beatriz Lozano to participate in this great project as part of her design team.
This project was especially meaningful because, as Mexico City makes history hosting World Cup matches for a third time, global tournaments can often become inaccessible to the people who live in host cities. Álbum Épico makes Latin America’s largest fútbol memorabilia collections freely accessible at Museo Yancuic, a cultural space created to expand access to art across the city. Open to everyone, the exhibition features over 15,000 historic pieces, including legendary jerseys from Jorge Camps, Maradona, and Pelé.
Cocolab led the exhibition’s experiential design and interactive galleries in collaboration with Gobierno de la Ciudad de México and the Selección Nacional de México. Ancho was brought on to create a visual identity system that could scale across the museum's physical space, digital applications, and merch.
At the center of the identity is the trajectory of the ball. Sweeping lines guides viewers across the experience, forming a flexible graphic system that carries across the museum, digital applications, and merch. The custom-drawn wordmark comes from our study of historic jersey numerals in the collection, with slanted crossbars that nod to the current Selección Mexicana kit.
